What You Should Know About HD Satellite TV
Ever since HD satellite TV came to market during the latter part of the 1990’s, we’ve been told it’s the best thing since the invention of cable broadcasting. Vibrant colors, lifelike features, and surround sound systems. But is HD satellite TV really as great as they say ?
First, let’s start by defining what HD satellite TV is. It is a broadcast method that allows for the distribution of higher resolution pictures across the airwaves, which result in a clearer picture and better colors.
The quality of the picture is measured in what are called scan lines which means the more scan lines the better the quality of the picture. Analog had 525 scan lines per image while HD TV has 1080 scan lines per image, which means your picture will have twice the clarity.
But what are the real benefits of HD satellite TV ? HD TV is broadcast in digital so you will never again see ghosting or have a snowy picture like you did with analogue. You will get a super sharp image that has much more realistic coloring than analogue, and you can now have the widescreen format like the movies.
You also get Dolby Digital surround a sound, which means a gunshot sounds like it just went off in the room. So although none of us may need HD satellite TV, we all want it!
You can get your HD satellite TV signals from providers like DirecTV or DISH Network – both offer HDTV signals, which can be bundled with basic channels too. You can add the digital package onto DirecTV for under $10 a month.
If you want to take advantage of the HD satellite TV packages, you will need to subscribe to the high definition package and then you need an HD TV receiver and television. Although you can watch an HD TV signal on a non HD television, you will not see any of the benefits.
Currently there is a lot of confusion out there about what exactly one needs in a television and with so much hype on the HD it’s easy to get sucked into something you don’t need or want. Just make sure you do your homework and research the equipment that is on the market. You also will need to do some price comparing once you have an idea of what it is you wish to purchase.
Let’s face it HD TV is the wave of the future. In fact, so much that it was legislated that televisions had to be high definition compatible. It’s pretty amazing to see where we’ve been and where we’ve gone too in such a short period of time.
Not that long ago if you had a black and white television you were happy, and now thanks to HD satellite TV we bring the movies to our homes.
